London 2012 = Roadie Invasion of Surrey! (updated)

Update: Team GB’s cycling team will also be based in Surrey!

Another week, another announcement of a national cycle team that are going to be training in Surrey for the London 2012 Olympics.

This time it’s the Canadians who will be heading to our roads. They join the Americans and Australians who will also be training on the Surrey streets ahead of the London 2012 games. With both the Road Race and Time Trial events taking place in Surrey and with the excellent transport links both internationally and into London afforded to Surrey, we can probably expect more and more announcements like this over the coming months.

On the subject of road biking, I’ve been hearing on the grapevine that it’s not just MTBers but also roadies that are a target for the bike-haters of the Surrey Hills. I’m sure they will be treating this news with sufficient contempt but, for the rest of us, it’s hopefully going to be a chance to see some of the world’s top cyclists on the roads of Surrey before the games.
